Rev. Christine Schrade Keddy, Pastor

Miracles happen every day…..

If only we know where to look for them.

Last summer, I was experiencing a fairly challenging time in my life. While I was working on clearing out all of my worldly belongings from the state of Rhode Island, I made the mistake of putting my cell phone on the roof of my car. I know that I should never do this…. but I did it anyway because I was extremely distracted. I wasn’t paying attention to what I was doing.

I wrapped up my work and drove out of the storage unit parking lot. I needed to stop at the grocery store and pick up some items for dinner so I drove on a busy highway from my storage unit to the grocery store, a distance of about half a mile. I had to turn out of the driveway of the storage unit. Then I had to turn at a stoplight. And then I had to turn again into the parking lot of the grocery store. As I pulled into the parking space, it was then I realized that I did not have my cell phone with me. I looked everywhere in my car took everything out of my bag emptied everything I could think of.

No cell phone.

OH. NO.

I must have left my cell phone on the roof of the car. That is when I realized it. And I knew that there is no possible way that the cell phone would be recoverable after I had driven as far as I had driven and made a number of turns. Also driving at pretty much highway speeds. There would have been a slight chance that maybe it had fallen off in the parking lot of my storage unit and then it might have been OK. So I made the decision to go back to the storage unit and look in the parking lot on the ground. But something (or SOMEONE) spoke to me in my intuition and told me to get out of the car first and look on the roof of the car.

No! I answered this voice. It couldn’t possibly be on the top of my car after all of the driving that I had to do. Ridiculous! Plus this is just again what happens to me all the time….. bad things always happen to me. That’s immediately where my head started to go. Immediately my head started to go back to my stinking thinking. But then a Still Small Voice said. “Christine, just try it get out of the car and look on the roof…. maybe something is changing…..”

So I did. I did.

I got out and I looked at the roof of my car.

And what do you think I saw???

My cell phone. Sitting happily on top of the roof of my car.

I know.

How how how could that be?

But it was. There it was sitting on the roof of my car with absolutely nothing wrong with it. I didn’t have to go and spend another $800 on a new cell phone. I didn’t have to go back to the parking lot and look for it all over the ground. I didn’t have to do any of that. All I had to do was pick my chin up off of the ground, go into the grocery store and continue on with day.

I knew immediately that it was God. God trying to speak to me and tell me that my the work that I had been doing to change my stinking thinking was starting to make a difference. It was God telling me “good job Christine keep up the good work”. It was God telling me “yes things CAN go well for you! Yes you can change your course and trajectory of your life by changing your thinking. You are getting better and stronger every day. You keep going with what you need to do, and let me take care of what I need to take care of for you.”

Friends, in this season of Easter, this season of miracles, and new birth and new beginnings.

May you too experience the miracle of the Risen Jesus.

Right in the middle of your very ordinary life.

blessings,
Pastor Christine
